It may be difficult for this author to give an accurate account of the events that took place last Sunday in the match against Claddagh and Pogue’s Run; chiefly because I wasn’t there. But as any member of this club knows: we don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story! So, I will recount the epic battle between The Orange Crush and The Pogue’s. Note: You will have to forgive me, as some of the material from my weekend in Greenville, SC may make its way into the recounting.HERE WE GO! Each team took to the field hoping to further their early success. Along with starting the league with a win the week before, Claddagh was also thinking about a title they had to defend. Pogue’s Run was also trying not to suffer their first defeat of the season. With the teams lined-out Pogue’s Captain (America) Roberts put the majority of the scoring responsibility on the shoulders of Jacob Wilkes. With a trained hawk-eye for scoring, Wilkes masterfully laid it over the bar 7 times. There were also talks of Jacob’s amazing skill with the old stick and ball. Apparently, Jacob took the ball twice in the hand, dribbled it off the ground, back onto his stick, and shot for a score (I know how epic this sounds, so I doubt it really happened. I must have seen it in a certain blockbuster movie that weekend… “A Little Bit of Heaven” starring Kate Hudson, I think it was.) On the defensive side, it was an immense effort put on by Pogue’s. Woody “Iron Man” White turned to his hulking defenders and simply said, “Smash!” The boys in grey (or where they in green?) were happy to oblige him. To hold Claddagh, a deadly scoring team in their own right, to only a couple goals and a handful of points was a super feat to be sure. In the end, Pogue’s ended on top 5-11 to 2-10. Shawarmas for everyone! Don’t think Claddagh will take this defeat lying down. They will look to Avenge this loss the next time these teams meet June 10. Stay tune for that epic sequel. |
