Playing the first match of a back-to-back double header, Goose sought to build enough of an early lead that Ciaran Connery could retire for most of the second half and watch everyone else suck wind from the sidelines. Connery’s sure hands and booming puck outs allowed the assembled flock of Geese to build a sizeable halftime advantage, as the law firm of Fagan, Griffith, & Rosiello* dropped in points and goals from all over the pitch. Indy Hurling newcomer Dave Riordan dominated the center of the field, even pointing off of a ground strike from a good 40 yards out. It should be noted that while such displays of skill might be commonplace in the Old Country, here in America we just consider it showing off.

With a comfortable lead at the half, Goose made some modifications to the second half line out, and Connor’s quickly pounced on the opportunity to regain some ground on the scoreboard. With renewed vigor, Connor’s relentlessly attacked the suddenly vulnerable Goose defensemen. Heidar Thorardson and Eoghan Reade breached the opposition’s protection time after time, resulting in a sudden flurry of goals and points that closed the gap between the two teams much more quickly and efficiently than Goose had anticipated. Connor’s calmly carved away at Goose’s lead, at one point closing to within 5 points. In the end, however, Goose’s considerable halftime lead was too much for Connor’s to overcome. A handful of late points allowed Goose to pull away for the win with a final tally of Goose 3-17 to Connor’s 3-9 after a hard fought match that featured plenty of splendid hurling from both teams.

Goose moved on to play Renner’s in the second game of their doubleheader. Both teams resume league play under the lights on Friday, May 18^th.
