Our Women’s Teams
Gaelic Football
Experience the thrill of Gaelic football as you kick, hand-pass, and score. Gaelic football is best described as a blend of rugby, soccer, basketball and volleyball. It’s played on the same size field as camogie but with a hard round ball similar to a volleyball. Players score by kicking the ball into the goal (worth 3 points) or by kicking or handpassing the ball between the uprights (worth 1 point). Learn more about gaelic football here.
Camogie
Channel your inner strength and agility in the fast-paced sport of camogie. Master the art of striking, catching, and blocking as you compete alongside teammates who share your passion for this traditional Irish game that shares similarities with lacrosse and field hockey. Players lift a small baseball-like ball called a sliotar off the ground and strike it with a stick with a flattened end called a hurley. Learn more about camogie and the male equivalent, hurling, here
Community & Friendship
Joining the Indianapolis GAA isn’t just about playing sports—it’s about building lasting friendships and connections. Our supportive community will cheer you on both on and off the field, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Why Join the Indy GAA Ladies Teams?
- Fun & Fitness: Stay active and healthy while enjoying the thrill of our sports. We offer optional (but encouraged) practices each week during the season, a local co-ed recreational league, and opportunities for women’s competitive games and travel play.
- Skill Development: Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, our coaches and fellow players are committed to helping you improve your skills.
- Friendship & Support: Join a welcoming community of like-minded women who will support you both on and off the field. The club offers a variety of social events, an annual club picnic, and we participate in local Irish cultural events. We also have ladies-only social events.
How To Join The Indianapolis GAA
Joining is easy! Simply reach out to us through our website or social media channels to learn more about membership and upcoming events. Whether you’re interested in trying Gaelic football, camogie, or simply want to be a part of our vibrant community, we can’t wait to welcome you aboard! Our club calendar shows upcoming events and new players are always welcome to drop into a practice.
No Experience? No Problem
Almost none of us grew up playing these sports—that’s part of why it is so fun! It’s new and an exciting challenge. Gaelic football and camogie combine many of the skills used in other sports so you likely already have a foundation for some of the skills of the games. If you don’t have experience, that’s fine too. Our coaches and players create a safe and fun environment to learn.
