2023 Indy GAA Fall League

Fall league is back this year, and is the perfect time to check out the club if you’ve been thinking about learning more about the Gaelic games, or just an excellent way for our more veteran players to participate in a low-stakes, fun environment.

The schedule will be as follows:

  • Sunday, October 1st and 15th – 11am – Hurling & Camogie
  • Sunday, October 8th and 22nd – 11am – Gaelic Football

Everything will take place at Eugene Burns Fields, 5602 Glenn Road, Lawrence, IN 46226.

Again, no experience or equipment is necessary, just show up with a set of boots and an open mind, and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you have questions, please contact vicechair@indygaa.com

Nationals Callout and Practices

As we plan ahead to the 2023 USGAA Nationals in Denver this year, we’ve started holding dedicated nationals-focused practices, which are in addition to our traditional Wednesday practices.

  • Hurling & Camogie – Tuesdays
  • Gaelic Football – Thursdays

These practices will be held at Eugene Burns Fields and as always, keep an eye on our calendar in the event things change.

As we get further into the season we’ll start to hone in on the makeup of our travel teams, but until then these practices are open to anyone interested in potentially making the trip.

In the meantime we ask that you complete this form to help us get a better idea of how many folks can make the trip, and how many teams we should register.

Draft Night 2023

The 2023 Pub League Draft has now been set for Monday, March 6th, at 7pm at Upland Brewing in SoBro.

In order to ensure youā€™re name will be entered into the draft we ask you toĀ register for the seasonĀ no later than February 27th!

Also be on the lookout for more announcements regarding team captains and sponsors!

2022 Nationals Call Out Meeting this Sunday

Chicago Nationals 2022 will be held August 19-21.  Stop what you’re doing and add it to your IOS/Android calendars, circle the dates on your 2022 GAA stars pin-up calendar, and set-up your out-of-office reply!

The stars have certainly aligned for us. Nationals in Chicago is as close as we get geographically to play our games on a national stage.  Therefore, as we come out of a two-year official club hiatus from Nationals participation, we are looking to descend upon Chicago in full force.  Weā€™re talking hurling, camogie, football, friends and family.

We will have a call-out meeting on Oct. 17th @ 1pm at Eugene Burns to briefly set the stage for all things Nationals Chicago 2022.  Please attend!

Serious business to be had in our preparations; habits to form.  Last time we displayed our talents in Chicago, we pulled a double-championship in hurling and football.  This is the year of the triple, or why not a quadruple?!

We hope to see you on Oct 17thĀ to help us begin anew in our quest for cups.Ā  A youth clinic will also be going on at this time, please consider bringing candy to hand out for trunk-or-treat at the end of the clinic.

ā€œWe are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habitā€

Pub League Starts this Weekend

Pub league starts this weekend and we couldn’t be more excited! These games have been a long time coming and I know that it’ll be great to see everyone out on the pitch again. With that being said, I wanted to take a moment to share a few bits of info with everyone.

League Pick ‘Em is Back

Our league commissioner, Tim Cabeen, is once again holding a League Pick ‘Em. Those who are interested in participating can submit their Week 1 picks here. If you have any questions you can get ahold of Tim here.

A Special Thanks

I also wanted to take a moment and acknowledge all of the hard work and planning that has gone into making the season possible, particularly Tristan and the “Hardy Bucks” (my favorite band in college) who braved some adverse weather conditions this week to get the fields lined for this weekend.

Aussie Friendly has Been Postponed

We were informed this morning by our friends the Indy Giants that our Aussie rules football friendly scheduled for this Saturday will need to be postponed until further notice. We’ll be sure to share more details on the re-match as they come together.

Week 1 Details

We are hoping that the weather holds out on us, but if something changes be sure to keep an eye on Slack for the latest. If you need access to our Slack community please email me.

Without further ado below you’ll find the Week 1 matchups. You can also view lots of useful info on each matchup page, including fields, referees, and officiating crews.

Team Challenge

šŸ† April Team Skills Challenge

March was a great month for our clubs Monthly Skills Competition. I know it’s tough not being on the field with each other but hopefully you felt some club esprit de corps and a connection to your teammates as we completed our challenges. I have my fingers crossed that this month’s challenge brings us one step closer to playing with each other soon.

March’s Winners

Hotel Tango rose to the trash talking of the pretenders to the throne to claim the football challenge and Skyline Roofing swooped in for the victory on the very last day in the hurling/camogie challenge.

This Month’s Challenge

Our hurling/camogie challenge involves the jab lift with a run/solo and our Gaelic football challenge is wall kicks. Please take a moment to view the videos below for all the details:

The Prizes

A $10 voucher for one of the clubā€™s sponsors for all participating members of the winning team. In addition, all participating members of the team with the most participants will be entered into a drawing where one team member will win 2 passes to the Indianapolis Zoo!

Further Guidance

Please video and upload the recording to our Slack channels in the channel #monthlychallenges  and on social media. Please remember to mention your team and sponsor at some point in the recording and extra credit if you tag them too.

Donā€™t forget to enter your score here, or get someone on your team to do it for you, onto the Google Sheet linked below. THIS IS VERY A IMPORTANT STEP to ensure we can accurately tally the winners!

The challenge will end on April 30th, and a new challenge will then be launched for the month of May, hopefully bringing us one month closer to us getting together on the field again. This is a great opportunity for us all to practice our skills, stay connected and have some fun until we return to play.

I hope you all enjoy the virtual challenge and best of luck to everyone!
